DRASA Health Trust is a public health organization working with government, local and international partners, community leaders, students, and health workers to promote adequate sanitation and hygiene, reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthen Nigeria’s health security and emergency preparedness. DRASA was established in memory of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh. She identified and contained Nigeria's first Ebola patient despite pressure from a foreign government to release him - preventing a major outbreak in Africa's most populous country - but lost her life in the process. Through DRASA, we continue her legacy of protecting public health. |

Nigeria’s large youthful population and the extremely poor state of hygiene in most schools, academic institutions, and low-resource communities means that the majority of the country is exposed to unsanitary environments where infectious diseases quickly spread. Coupled with the generally low levels of awareness on issues related to health and hygiene, we realized that there was a unique opportunity to develop a youth-targeted community engagement program. In the last 3 years, we have directly reached 24,856 students, 1,162 teachers, and 314 community leaders in 30 states across Nigeria through our programs and partnerships. We have also established weekly Health and Hygiene Clubs for 500 students in 10 public secondary schools, training and empowering them to become champions of good hygiene, environmental sanitation, and healthy practices in their schools, homes, and communities. |
